Naflion 1 hour and 15 minutes drive away from the resort. It is one of the most romantic cities all over Greece, Nafplion was the first capital of the newly born Greek state between 1823-1834. The town’s history traces back to pre-historic era. Franks, Venetians and Turkish conquerors left their mark in the town and strongly influenced its culture, architecture and traditions during the centuries. Ancient walls, medieval castles, monuments and statues, Ottoman fountains and Venetian or Neoclassical buildings make the city astonishing. In the heart of Nafplion stands the beautiful Italian style “Syntagma Square” surrounded by historical buildings and monuments. From there you can use the tourist train to enjoy a leisurely tour around the town. You can explore the city center situated close to the harbour, pass through the narrow cobblestone alleys and make short stops to Town Hall, War Museum, Children’s’ Museum, Folk Art Museum etc. You may admire the neoclassical mansions, covered by pink bougainvilleas if you choose, you can make a stop and enjoy a cup of coffee or a delicious meal or sip a drink at the port taking the amazing view of Bourtzi- the most photographed spot in Nafplion- always lit up at night (it used to be a Venetian small fortress, later used as a prison, and nowadays as a tourist spot). When it is hot, you can take an invigorating swim on the nearby organized beaches of Arvanitia, Karathonas, Nea Kios, Kiveri and others.
